Reset Network Adapter
Hello,
For the past 2 days I have had difficulty connecting to websites using Internet Explorer. I would click a link or an address in the address bar and the little circle would twirl until it timed out. I finally used the diagnostic pane to check for a solution. A cause could not be found but it was suggested I reset the network adapter, local network.
I Googled resetting the network adapter, however the information I found pertained to routers which I do not have. My os is Vista and I have a Westell 6100 modem box from Verizon. I am using Internet Explorer 9.
I hope someone can be of assistance.
Thank you.
please help figure out wtf this means

[Wireless/Satellite] SIM card swap from Netcom to Ericsson35 hub
Can you simply switch sim cards in the units and continue to use your service provider??
My father jumped off the dialup and onto high speed band wagon a few months back (Or I guess we should say we though he did). Prior to doing so he had a neighbour stop in with his ericsson 35 turbo hub. They played around with it and he was quite satisfied so he signed a 2 year contract with rogers and got one. But what they sent was a NetCom Rocket Hub. (I affectionately call it the SLUG HUB) Originally when he had WINTERNET service. He rarely saw download speeds of more then 1mbps usually the speed tests he ran were in the .2-.3Mbps range. Now that the summer foliage is out he is getting speed tests that include a .0 in the results. His friend dropped in with the old ericsson35 unit and they did a bit of side by side drag racing with the two units and found the ericsson only sucked half as much as the SLUG HUB from Netcom.
He would of been better off sticking to dialup. He is 12km from the tower. I suggested he start raising such a stink with them that they would be better off letting him out of his contract. However due to there really being no alternative in his area at this time he seems content to stick it out. Any research I have done seems to indicate that an external antenna will not help the speed. People report it does improve the signal but not the speed. The rogers help desk suggested he get one. He asked what kind they suggest and there was dead silence on the other end.
Anyways he is thinking if he could get the Ericsson35 unit he would be better off. I see some adds for used ones in his area however the one add I saw was for a bell unit. apparently they have SIM cards in them just like the SLUG HUB he all ready has. So I was wondering if anyone could tell me wether you can simply swap SIM cards and go to it?
THanks
P.S. My Overpriced high latency satellite service that provides 1/4 of what I pay for with Xplornet is better then what he has.

Helping my brother with his local WiFi set up
Not sure if this the right forum, I looked at the list for a few minutes. If the wrong forum, please move...
I received an e-mail from my brother this morning. He has a large home with many walls. His network was professionally installed and set up. It worked fine for years, but now it's painfully slow.
quote:...
"So- my issue seems to be router/access point driven.. i think
Here is what we have-- hooked into a cable modem in susans office is a Liksys/cisco wireless n router (model wrt160 n) and a Liksys/cisco powerline network adapter (model plt e 200)
Susan's computer which is in the same room, and is wirelessly connected, seems to work fine and her internet connection is fast
In the living room we have a Liksys/Cisco wireless n access point with power over ethernet (model wap441 on) and a powerline 4 port network adaptor (model plt s200)
the rest of the house - media room/ my office/ bedroom etc shows full signal on the computers and ipad and show internet access but is incredibly slow-- like really really slow and impossible to use -- there is an issue somewhere--"
As this is the blind leading the blind, I suggested that he make sure his router's firmware is up to date. Other than that, I suggested that routers and adapters have a finite life and the hardware might have degraded.
What else might I suggest?
Thanks!

[Cable] Something wrong with my internet connection...?
So I recently did a line quality test on my connection to see if there were any problems. While I was able to pass the hop loss analysis tests, the bandwidth stream tests showed a ton of loss. Is this something that I should be worried about, or is this perhaps just "phantom loss"?

slow and erratic internet speed
I am running windows xp pro with ie7. I have a new ubee cable modem and have been told the signal to my modem is good. I have 18mbps service, but speed test rarely get above 10. My uploads are usually around 2. I do have a wirleless router wich I have tried test with being hooked up through it and with out. Generally the test are a little better with it unhooked. My girlfriend has a laptop and when she is connected via wirleless her internet runs much faster. I am wondering if it is my computer and if I need to tweed something or run some sort of scan to find a problem. I have run every scan I can think of, but maybe I am running the wrong one. I have tried AdAware, Spybot, Malwarebytes, and my AVG. Some times I have to restart my computer to get on the internet. It has also been getting progressively worse for the last few weeks. Any ideas out there. Or should I pay for one of those online test or take it to a shop. Thanks for any help I can get.
